Day 5 – June 9, 2014

Day 5 was so much fun. We went to Bridal Veil Falls in the morning and then Thanksgiving Point in the afternoon. I had my camera in hand trying to capture anything and everything I could. I tried to think, “would this go on a brochure?” I wanted more than just a slide show of a family vacation. I was definitely in a commercial/editorial mode.

Bridal Veil was really neat. There was a large waterfall that came down to a pond like area of water. There were some fish in one part and then the other side people were wading and splashing. There was path up to the falls but we stayed down below. As cool as it was, it was nothing compared to Shoshone or some falls I am a witness too back in Washington. Regardless, it was fun for the kids in my group to wade though and play. It was a very hot day. Also on the trail, one of the boys pointed to the trees at a butterfly. He told me to photograph it. I tried my best and thought no way they would have turned out but as I was editing them I was shocked to see some awesome shots of the butterfly. So cool!

After Bridal Veil we went to Thanksgiving Point. More specifically we went to the Natural Museum of Curiosity at Thanksgiving Point. There were a lot of fun things to see and look at in this little part called “Kidapalooza.” It was this make-believe little town where kids can run around and pretend play. There was music, banking, puppet, Laundromat, art place, dancing, movie making, curiosity, building with blocks and trinkets and more. There were different kinds of “professions” to try out. I was so impressed with the whole concept. It was rather busy with it being summer. If I ever make it back there, I will try and bring my daughter during a time not so crowded.

There was also a place in another part of the museum were kids could play with water. It was so fun. There were different activities to make the water move or use the water to make other things function. There was also a little pool where you could place your baby and they would have fun playing in water and with water toys. Also, outside there was a Noah’s Ark spewing out water and a little wading pool. It felt nice to be in the water in the hot sun. What a neat fun place to photograph and really get in an editorial mindset.

Overall it was a fun day, I got to do some nature photography in the morning and editorial in the afternoon while also enjoying the activities myself. Here are just a few of my favorite shots:
