Last year at Emerald City ComicCon I took some pictures of a comic book artist and his agent. I e-mailed the pictures to the agent and he responded that he liked them. I was quite happy at this point. I was still learning my camera only having it a year and it always made me happy when someone appreciated my work.

But the story didn’t end there! I recently came in contact with this agent on the social networking site Facebook and set as his profile image was the photograph I took. This excited me. I have taken pictures of friends in the past and given them the copies. It always was a compliment when they would use the photographs as their profile pictures. So, the fact this agent put my picture up was a major compliment. I had messaged him and his reply was that I was a good photographer and asked if I was attending this year if I would take some more photographs.

My first initial response wanted to be “how much?” But then I realized that the fact this person liked my photography enough to ask me to photograph them again was a compliment and if I get some monetary compensation it would just be that, nothing special, but the fact he had asked me and that I have an opportunity could have a return far greater.

I do photography because I love it. Sure, I have to think about making some kind of income with it. But right now, I am quite happy spreading the word about me. You bet I will have some business cards available.
