I recently took my Two Women One Mission hiking trip up to the Central Cascades. My fellow photographer friend, Heather Wallace, and I hiked the Wenatchee National Forest. It short few words… it was amazing! We were up there just a few days, Friday, September 14th through Thursday the 20th. We hiked up Cooper River, to Pete’s Lake and the Teanaway River. The fires were just over the ridge where we were. In fact the road we took to the Teanaway River was closed two days after we were just there. On our last full day we drove up a rocky road to get a picture of the valley and of the smoke from the fires. It was so quiet and eerie to see nature in action. I wish we could have gotten closer but it still was a sight to see. Who knew that when we planned our trip a year ago we would be witnessing a major fire. I would post pictures but that will have to wait as we are turning these pictures into a table top book and will be having a gallery showing. However, soon a sneak peak will be up.
After that wonderful trip I have been applying for jobs, mostly design jobs, but I can’t help but think of that amazing trip. 27 miles total and many beautiful photographs. I keep thinking I am forcing myself to go in a more secure direction than really testing to see where my photography can go. Sure, we can all use a steady income to pay the bills but there is something about taking my photography to the next level that keeps knocking around. The choice is mine.
