Day 4 – June 8th 2014

I thought for sure Day 4, it was Sunday, I wouldn’t get to do any photography. I almost decided to just call it and let it be a day of rest. I knew I would have some opportunities later that I could do more photography. We were planning on going to a place called Thanksgiving Point on Monday. I would be exploring possibly environment photography or even some architecture there, and some commercial style photography.

Later in the afternoon I heard everyone was going to go fly kites. I have some awesome pictures from kite flying at a beach once and so I thought I probably didn’t need any more, but then I remembered, this is a photography discovery opportunity. I needed to take every chance I had to go shoot. I was testing myself and really figuring out where to take my photography. I grabbed my camera and followed them to the park.

I was so happy I took that opportunity. Not only did I get to do some shots of them flying the kites but some of the kids were just relaxing and having some fun on the grass too, so I got to get some awesome shots of them! They turned out amazing, some of the best portrait style photography I have ever done. I am not sure if was because the lighting was so great or that it was just so natural. Even the portrait style photography felt more editorial. Perhaps, editorial really is my strength and interest?

Regardless, as I went through the photos later that evening I had thus far, I realized that photography was indeed a passion. I wasn’t burnt out and I couldn’t wait to take more and I was sad, believe it or not, I wasn’t able to really edit them, yet. I did some, but between participating and photographing, I knew blogging and editing would have to come later. I didn’t intend for a month later!

I was planning on this trip anyway, but as I was preparing to leave, especially in the midst of me starting my business and getting myself out there, I thought what better than to really take this opportunity and discover what kind of photographer I am. I am really proud of what I had captured up to that point and I was so anxious for what was too come.

Here are some of my favorites from that day:
